The Chesterfield County Council voted to purchase the former Western Auto store building, directly across Main Street from the courthouse at a Wednesday, June 6 meeting.
County Building Official Keith Benton said he had inspected the building.
“The building appears to be in good structural condition,” he said.
Councilman Douglas Curtis said the building could be used for county offices that are currently in rented buildings.
“It’s a good opportunity for whatever we use that building for,” he said. “It will pay for itself over time.”
The 6,650 square-foot building is owned by Donna Hurst and has ¾ acre of property. The cost is $195,000, which is payable over five years.
