RUBY – A Dec. 5 morning fire destroyed a house on Rock Spring Church Road in Ruby.
The Ruby-Mt. Croghan Volunteer Fire Department received a call at 5:23 a.m. Dec. 5.  Fire Chief Robert Hancock said the fire destroyed the house by the time his department arrived on the scene.  A male, described as being in his 60’s, was pulled from the fire by a nephew who lived nearby.
The Chesterfield and Sandhill volunteer fire departments also responded to the call.  Medshore Ambulance Services was there on standby.  Lynches River Electric Co-operative disconnected the power to the house.
A wood-burning stove caused the fire, Hancock said.
American Red Cross volunteers assisted the victim, a dialysis patient, by providing financial assistance for food, clothes and other essential items.

Modified lockdown at Petersburg Primary
Petersburg Primary of Pageland was placed on modified lockdown on Dec. 5 after loud noises, possibly gunshots, were heard. Pageland Police investigated, determining the noise was the dropping of furniture pallets.
A modified lockdown means students are kept inside the building for safety concerns, according to school officials.
