Junior Eagles win tournament

Central’s junior varsity baseball team defeated Buford and Cheraw March 18 in a tournament held at Central High.

In the first game, Central downed Buford 11-3 with Jakob Starling as the winning pitcher.

Will Atkinson had one hit, one RBI and four stolen bases; Buddy Faile had one hit, one RBI, one stolen base; Grant Mullis had one hit (double), one RBI; Ryan Eason one hit, one RBI, two stolen bases; Sabastian Richardson one hit, one RBI; Lucas Deese one hit, one RBI; and Starling had a sacrifice.

In the second game, the Junior Eagles defeated Cheraw 10-4. Ryan Eason was the winning pitcher striking out six batters.

Atkinson had one hit, one RBI; Faile two hits, two RBI’s; Jamie Parks two RBI’s, one stolen base; Mullis one hit (double), one RBI and one sacrifice; Richardson one hit, one RBI; Deese one hit, one RBI; and Starling one sacrifice.

Earlier in the week, Central lost to Chesterfield 9-5. Atkinson had one hit; Faile one hit, one sacrifice; Parks one hit (homerun), three RBI’s and one stolen base; Eason had one hit, one RBI and two stolen bases; and Mullis had three hits (one double) and one RBI.

“This is a good group of young men,” said coach Trent Usher. “They are continuing to hit the ball and when that happens, we will get the runs. Our defense continues to improve as well as our pitching.”
