Lady Hawks win one, lose two

The New Heights Lady Hawks softball team lost two of their three games last week as their record dipped to 6-3 for the year.

The Lady Hawks defeated visiting Darlington 11-8 on Wednesday, March 28. Jazmyn Baker was the winning pitcher striking out 13, including whiffing the side four times.

Hitting safely for New Heights were Stephany Pena with one hit and two runs; Mija Blakeney, Rebecca Martinez, Michaela Pressley and Allie Parker with one hit each and Jazmyn Baker  and Shadell Harris with one hit and one RBI each.

The Lady Hawks lost a doubleheader to visiting Hartsville on Thursday, March 29. In the first game the visiting Red Foxes won by a score of 14-2 in four innings. Mikayla Krest was the losing pitcher. New Heights managed only two hits coming from Daisha Funderburk and Logan Duvall, each with an RBI.

The second game saw the visitors squeak out a 10-9 win over the Lady Hawks. Jazmyn Baker was the losing pitcher striking out five.

Leading hitters were Daisha Funderburk with two hits and two RBI’s; Ashlyn Freeman with one hit and one run; Mikayla Krest with one hit and two RBI’s and Logan Duvall and Shay McBride with one hit and two RBI’s each.

 The Lady Hawks (6-3) have two weeks off and will resume play Monday, April 16 when they travel to Hartsville for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.. They finish the year Wednesday, April 18 hosting Andrew Jackson at 4:30 p.m.
