The New Heights Hawks football team hosted McBee Sept. 22 and shut them out 44-0.

Robert Price intercepted a McBee pass at the 12-yard line, which led to the Hawks’ first touchdown. Ron Benjamin scored on a 44-yard run and also ran in for the two-point conversion.

Benjamin added his second touchdown of the night on a 48-yard run and rushed in for the conversion to up the Hawks’ lead to 16-0.

Shyhiem McManus put the Hawks’ next points on the board on a 33-yard touchdown run. The PAT (point after touchdown) attempt failed and the Hawks’ lead crept up to 22-0.

McManus passed to Tyreick McBride for a 17-yard touchdown and with Leon Clarke’s conversion, the Hawks’ lead had increased to 30-0 at halftime.

McBride caught another McManus pass from 30 yards out and with Benjamin’s conversion, New Heights had an astounding 38-0 lead.

New Heights’ last touchdown came on Oscar Moore’s 30-yard run. The PAT failed and the final score was 44-0.

“Our offense and defense played great tonight,” said coach Billy Blakeney. “The offense was outstanding and the defense never let McBee score. I am very proud of the super effort that all the kids gave. It was good that everyone got to play. They played hard throughout the game. Even when we got a big lead, they didn’t let up.”

Coach Mark Black added, “We changed up the defense before the game and it definitely worked as they didn’t score on us. This group of guys has worked hard all season and they do what is asked of them.”

The Hawks will travel to Chesterfield Thursday for a county match-up. Game time is 5:30 p.m. and the Junior Eagles will follow at 7.
