A distracted driver caused a three-vehicle, chain-reaction accident in downtown Pageland on Tuesday, July 31. Pageland Police Sgt. Jeremy Lear said the three vehicles were westbound on McGregor Street at around 11:40 a.m.
Jennifer Horne Eddins of Chesterfield was stopped at the traffic light at Pearl Street and Matthew Frank Sinclair of Cheraw was stopped behind Eddins.
Lear said Aakash J. Patel of Pageland said he took his eyes off the road for a moment and drove into the rear of Sinclair’s vehicle, causing it to move forward and strike the rear of Eddin’s vehicle.
Lear reported there was no damage to Eddin’s vehicle, as Sinclair struck only a heavy-duty trailer hitch on Eddin’s vehicle.
First Health EMS responded to the scene and transported Sinclair and two passngers to a hospital to be checked out.
