For the second time in less than a month a Pageland store has been burglarized and a safe stolen.
The latest victim is Dollar General at 209 S. Van Lingo Mungo Blvd. A Pageland police report said the break-in occurred after the store closed April 23 and before it reopened the next morning.
An employee told police she arrived for work Tuesday, April 24 and found a hole in the wall in the office and the store’s safe missing.
The report said she did not know the make or model of the safe, only that it was black and the door had recently been replaced.
Police Chief Larry Brown was told of the crime and an investigator from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrived to process the crime scene.
Apparently thieves cut a hole in the sheet metal siding on the southwest corner of the building, then pried away the metal wall studs and made a hole in the sheetrock wall to get into the office.
The report said it appeared the safe was the only thing taken from the store.
A similar burglary happened at Maxway in Pageland on April 1, when someone chiseled through a concrete block wall and made off with that store’s safe while the store was closed.
