The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a case of several animals reportedly being neglected and starved near Jefferson.
A sheriff’s department report dated Feb. 9 said Animal Control officers James Lewis and Clay Sikes went to 12450 Highway 151, Jefferson, to check on the welfare of livestock. The report said a caretaker, Gene Naples, let the officers onto the property, where they found approximately 50 cows and 15 horses that showed early signs of malnutrition.
