Chesterfield County First Steps will observe Week of the Young Child April 22 through 28 with children’s celebrations in Pageland on Tuesday, April 24 and in Cheraw on Thursday, April 26.
The events are both sponsored by Jerome and Hettie Davis owners of the McDonald’s restaurants in Pageland and Cheraw, are held to celebrate the promise of every young child and recognize the role of the teachers who guide them in their formative years. Both celebrations will feature a children’s walk through the towns.
Karen Odom, Executive Director of Chesterfield County First Steps, explained the purpose of the events.
“These special days for children are part of a national Week of the Young Child observance and are intended to accentuate the potential of all children and the importance of early childhood education in developing that potential,” Odom said. “First Steps is very grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Davis for their genuine concern for the children in our communities. The Davis’ are committed advocates for early childhood education as their sponsorship of these events demonstrates.”
The Pageland observance will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Moore’s Park and the walk will wind through the downtown area and back to the park. The Cheraw event will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Centennial Park with the walk taking the children to Caston Park.
Odom said the public is invited and encouraged to join the children’s walk in both locations. For more information call the Chesterfield County First Steps office at 843-623-5904.
