Merrell McCoy Young and John Klayton Kennedy, both of Surfside Beach, were married at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pawleys Island. The ceremony was officiated by The Rev. David R. Lyle.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Larry Young of Pawleys Island and is the granddaughter of Mrs. Grace Addy McCoy and the late Mr. John Emil McCoy of Pageland and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis Young of Georgetown. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from the University of South Carolina.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bennett Kennedy of Hemingway and Dr. and Mrs. Darren Mullins of Georgetown and is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Kennedy Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Leland O’Neal Perry. The groom received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Coastal Carolina University and is employed as a financial advisor with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Adrienne Young Erwin. Bridesmaids were Karen Elizabeth Adams, Stephanie Lauren Colson, Bridget Faherty Flaaen, Rosemary Garcia Heleine, Cassie Kennedy Mills, Virginia Arline Owen and Leslie Young Springs. Flower girls were Samantha Love Kennedy and Ella Griffen Mills.
Best Man was Ronald Clayton Adams Jr.. Groomsmen were Matthew Scott Bullock, Johnnie Alexander McKay, Robert Ford Mills, Darren Grady Rabon, Adam Tyler Willm and James Larry Young Jr. Ring Bearers were Thomas Klayton Kennedy, James Larry Young III and Jackson Deryl Young. Ushers were Robert Monroe Erwin, IV and John Derrick Stuckey.
Following the ceremony, a reception was hosted by the bride’s parents at DeBordieu Clubhouse.
Following the rehearsal, the groom’s parents hosted a dinner and dance at Pawleys Plantation.
After a honeymoon trip to Italy, the couple will reside in Surfside Beach.
