  • Crisp wins equestrian award

    COLUMBIA — Leigha Crisp , 8, and her pony Gunner, 5, showed in a competition on Oct. 17 at the South Carolina State Fair. They took champion in the 18-inch cross rail hunter division and Leigha received a blue ribbon in the cross rail equitation class. Leigha and Gunner are also fighting for the lead in the local Camden Equine Circuit in walk/trot.
    Leigha has been trained since age 6 by Linda Klein at Voxton Farm in Camden. She is the daughter of Steven and Summer Crisp of Camden and the granddaughter of Steve and Becky Crisp of Jefferson.
     

  • Pusser-DeMarco wedding

    Emily Paige Pusser of Chesterfield and Peter James DeMarco of Bloomsburg, Penn. were wed July 20, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chesterfield.
    Rev. Rebecca Huguely and Fr. Michael David officiated the 6 p.m. double-ring ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Ernest Hugh Pusser Sr. of Chesterfield and the late Ernest Hugh Pusser Sr. Granparents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Valentino Sr. and the late Mr. Louis Davis Rivers and Mr. and Mrs. John Welborn Pusser Sr.

    Rev. and Mrs. James Ronald Thurman of Ruby, announce the engagement of their daughter, Cassie Christine Thurman to Leslie Neil Davis of Chesterfield. Leslie is the son of Kenny and Joni Davis, also of Chesterfield.
    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jule Smith, of Cheraw, and Mildred G. Thurman of Ruby, the late Knox Thurman and the late Neil Moore Thurman. She is a 2003 graduate of Chesterfield high School and a 2007 Winthrop University graduate with a degree in Elementary Education. She is employed by Chesterfield County School District.

    Pantasia Ar’Shawna Hough celebrated her 8th birthday on May 1, 2011. She enjoyed a day at Chuck E. Cheese and a cookout with a sprinkle cake with her family.   • Local soldiers complete training

    Army Spec. Derrick A. Rivers has graduated from Basic Combat Training

    at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

         During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission

    and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies,

    Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military

    justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map

    Anthony and Vanessa M. Cassidy announce the birth of a daughter, Ashton Leigh Cassidy, born Feb. 17, 2011, at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews. She weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. and measured 20 ½ inches. Grandparents are James and Eloise Moree of Pageland, Barbara Cassidy and Michael Black of Ruby, and Tony and Mandi Cassidy of Ruby.   • Mulvaney goes to Congress

    About 15 minutes after becoming the first Republican from Lancaster County to win the 5th Congressional District seat in more than 100 years, Mick Mulvaney appeared overwhelmed.

    Surrounded by his wife, Pam, and members of his campaign team, Mulvaney, the state senator for District 16, thanked a crowd of supporters at the Bradley Arts and Sciences Building at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster for his win over Democratic incumbent John Spratt, who has held the seat since 1983.
