  • Marlboro County Jamboree and Cheraw Jamboree tickets on sale now

    Tickets are now on sale for the Marlboro County Jamboree and the Cheraw Jamboree.
    Central plays Carver’s Bay at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at Marlboro County, and plays South Stanley at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at Cheraw.
    Advance tickets are $5 and are available for purchase at River’s Graphics, 100 N. Pearl St., or from any varsity football player (If purchasing from a player, the ticket must be paid for in full before the ticket can be delivered).
    The proceeds from all advance ticket sales goes solely to Central High School.

  • Hospice volunteers complete training

    Eight area residents recently completed Hospice of Chesterfield County’s volunteer training program. The 15-hour course that was held July 10 through 24 at Hospice of Chesterfield County’s office in Chesterfield.     

  • First Baptist church school supplies giveaway

    First Baptist Church, Pageland will be offering free school supplies to less fortunate students Saturday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. until noon on the front lawn of the church. Supplies will be available for students enrolled at Petersburg Primary, Pageland Elementary and New Heights Middle schools. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The clothing closet at Pageland Community Assistance, next to the church will also be open for those needing help with back-to-school clothing.

  • Summer reading is a blast at the library

    This week we do our final summer reading party at each of our five branches to close out the Dream Big–READ! summer reading event.   This summer’s highlight was our visit from Cocky’s Reading Express.  Thanks to all who attended and made it a success.

  • Miss Central High is crowned

    For the first time since 1997, Central High School has royalty. Stephanie McRorie, a senior at CHS, was crowned Miss CHS on Saturday, March 19. McRorie is the daughter of George “Bo” and Deanna McRorie. She was chosen over 13 other contestants after modeling casual wear and evening wear and answering a question.

    The event was presented by the CHS Athletic Booster Club.

    The program began with the 14 contestants performing a group dance number that was not judged. They then modeled the casual wear.

  • Women's Hospitality Banquet set for March 19th

       Mark your calendars now for the annual Cheraw First Baptist Women’s Hospitality Banquet.  This year it will be a luncheon event, taking place on Saturday, March 19, from 11:30-1:30 in the Family Life Center of Cheraw First Baptist Church, located at the corners on Market and Greene Street.

  • Sheriff collecting toys for needy

    CHESTERFIELD – The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department is collecting new toys for its annual charity Christmas donation to needy families. The department collects new, unwrapped toys and donations for the program, which serves about 60 families in Chesterfield County.

    “We’d really rather have toys,” Sheriff Sam Parker said. “A lot of people bring money and we’ll take that too.”
