Capital project sales tax dies in third reading

The capital project sales tax, which would have imposed an additional one-percent sales tax onto Chesterfield County residents, is dead.

Chesterfield County Council struck down the ordinance at its Aug. 13 meeting in front of a larger crowd than usual.

A motion to approve the capital project sales tax ordinance failed its third reading 3-6. Voting in favor of the ordinance were council members Kenneth “Al” Johnson, Bruce E. Rivers and Gerald Miller.
