In a narrow vote, Chesterfield County Council voted for a controversial capital project sales tax at its July meeting.
The approval was for the second reading. It takes three readings to pass.
The ordinance would impose a one-percent sales tax to Chesterfield County residents, subject to a referendum in the November General Election.
Voting for the sales tax were council members Al Johnson, Robert G. Cole, Gerald Miller, Bruce E. Rivers and Crawford Moore.
