  • Eagles cross country teams win county meet

    Central’s girls and boys cross country teams ran in the county meet last Thursday in Cheraw, and both teams were victorious.
    In the girls’ meet, there were only two teams that qualified, with Central winning over Cheraw.
    Kirsten Dale was first overall with a time of 24:34 and Miya McManus was second with a time of 24:54. Amber Leaird came in fourth at 26:12, followed by Isabella Moseley fifth (26:36) and Lizzie Outlaw sixth (27:21). Arian Louallen placed 11th with a time of 29:32.

  • Volunteers beat Eagles for first time in 20 years

    For the first time in 20 years, the Central Eagles lost to their host Andrew Jackson Friday night.

    The Volunteers came from behind in the fourth quarter scoring two touchdowns to defeat the Eagles 20-13. It was Central’s second loss in the region this season after losing to Cheraw last week at home.

  • Cheraw wins ‘Feeding the Hungry’ food drive

    After eight days of students and staff bringing in canned food to Central and Cheraw High Schools, more than 3,400 pounds of food was collected for Harvest Hope.

    At halftime of the Eagles versus Braves football game Sept. 16, Cheraw High School’s athletic department was awarded a check for $1,000 by WoodmenLife for their donation of more than 2,000 pounds of food.

    Central High collected 1,437 pounds.

    WoodmenLife sponsored the canned food drive to support its national focus of feeding the hungry.

  • Eagles win cross-country meet at North Central

    The Central Eagles Cross-Country boys team won its meet at North Central High School Sept. 20 coming in with better times than the other 11 teams participating.

    The Eagles’ total time was 1:39:02. Cheraw edged out North Central for second at 1:44:26 with North Central on their heels with a time of 1:44:29. The Governor’s School and Buford rounded out the top five teams.

    E.J. Threatt placed third with a time of 19:02. Tevin Cannon and Marc Espinoza were fifth and sixth at times of 19:41 and 19:46, respectively.

  • Junior Eagles defeat AJ Volunteers 44-26

    Central’s junior varsity squad hosted Andrew Jackson Sept. 22 and defeated the visitors 44-26.

    Andrew Jackson drew first blood in the game coming on a 12-yard pass after only four plays and two minutes into the matchup.

    The extra point attempt failed and the Junior Volunteers held a 6-0 lead.

    Central answered with its own touchdown after driving 55 yards when Tyheim Richardson rushed in from nine yards out. Richardson also ran in for the two points to give the Junior Eagles an 8-6 lead.

  • Lady Eagles volleyball suffer losses

    Central’s Lady Eagles’ volleyball team lost three hard-fought games last week against McBee, Cheraw and Andrew Jackson.

    At McBee on Sept. 19, McBee edged out Central with scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21.

    Logan Duvall had two assists and two digs; Shadell Harris one dig; Alyssa Moree one dig; Kourtni Blount two aces, two assists, two digs; Makayla Kirkley one dig; Miya Meadows one kill, one dig, one block; Brianne Middleton four aces, three blocks; Leah Stegall one ace, one kill; and Lanie Duvall three kills, one dig.

  • JV volleyball has tough two weeks

    The Junior Lady Eagles had a tough week Sept. 12-16, losing all three games played.

    On Sept. 12, South Pointe Christian School edged out the Junior Lady Eagles with scores of 28-26 and 26-24.

    McKensie Arant had one ace; Kylie Mangum four aces, two kills; Kylie Sims two aces, four kills, one assist; Taylor Sowell two aces, one kill; Madison Quick three aces, one kill; and Karly Kirkley two aces.

    On Sept. 13 at Buford, the Lady Jackets handed the girls their second loss of the week with scores of 25-13 and 25-19.

  • Eagles fall to the Cheraw Braves

    The Central High School Eagles were routed by the Cheraw Braves Friday night at William D. Johnson Memorial Stadium.

    The 27-6 defeat was the Eagles’ first region loss and put the team’s record at 2-2 on the season.

    The Braves jumped out early on their first possession of the game after Monte Pratt set sail on a 55-yard touchdown run with 7:40 remaining in the first quarter.

    Jonah Dyson kicked the PAT (point after touchdown) to increase the Braves’ lead to 7-0.

  • Central’s cross-country wins two meets

    The Central boys cross-country team won the 5000 Meter Run at McBee High School Sept. 13, competing against seven other schools.

    The team’s winning time was 1:41:12. Sophomore Edgar Guzman finished third with a time of 19:27; E.J. Threatt was fourth at 19:29; and Tevin Cannon came in sixth with a time of 19:52.

    Other team members’ times include Hershel Connor 20:27; Walker Kirkley 21:27; Jamel Rushing 21:36; Jake Savage 21:59; Gavin Eubanks 23:59; Jalen Wilson 26:26; and Nic Wilson 34:31.

  • Lady Eagles win one of three games last week

    The Lady Eagles volleyball team was busy last week playing three games, two of them conference foes.

    Central started the week off on Monday, Sept. 12, hosting South Pointe Christian School and came up with the win.

    In set one, South Pointe overcame the Lady Eagles 25-23. Central won the second set 25-17 and the third one 25-21. South Pointe won the fourth set 25-21.
