Sheheen offers new higher education funding bill

-A A +A
By Don Worthington

S.C. Sen. Vincent Sheheen says family played a part in his recently filed higher education bill.
With three children in college, Sheheen said something needs to be done to control the rising cost of higher education in South Carolina.
“South Carolina (college tuition) is the highest in the South and sixth highest in the country for (out-of-state) tuition,” Sheheen said last week. “We need to constrain that cost.”
He also said that state funding for higher education is $225 million below 2008 pre-recession funding levels.
