  • Obituary - Kenneth Platts

    MYRTLE BEACH –  Kenneth Eric Platts, 53, died May 8, 2011. A graveside service was held, May 14, 2011 at Union Hill Baptist Church.
    Surviving are his mother, Mary C. Platts of Myrtle Beach; brothers Rusty Platts of Pageland, Robert Platts of Columbia and  Ernie Platts of Myrtle Beach; sister Katharine Carreaux of England.

  • Obituary - William Courtney

    PAGELAND – William Carson Courtney, 64, diedMay 11, 2011. A funeral service was held May 13, 2011 at Sutton-Baumgartner Funeral Home Chapel.
    Surviving are his  wife, Catherine Courtney of the home; sons Ricky Courtney of Pageland, Jeff Oxford of Monroe, N.C. and Jeremy Oxford of Arkansas; brother Joe Courtney of Pageland; sisters Mary Francis Myers of Pageland,  Linda Robinson of Lancaster.

  • Obituary - Beatrice Presson

    PAGELAND -  Beatrice Purser Presson, 91, of Pageland, departed this earth on May 7, 2011 at the Brian Center in Monroe. The daughter of Zebulon Vance Purser and Illa Estell Hill Purser, Beatrice was born in Union County on April 30, 1920.  She married Cary Alden Presson in 1940 and they moved to Charlotte to start their home.  They later moved to Pageland.  

  • Obituary - George Kiker

    LAURENS, SC – George William Kiker, 72, died April 21, 2011. A funeral service was held April 23, 2011 at Dials United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

    Surviving are a son, Anthony Kiker; daughters Melody Brown, Angie Wilson and Cynthia Kiker; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother Wade Faulks of Stanley, N.C. and sister Mildred Deese of Pageland.

  • Obituary - Emma Miller

    Pageland– Ms. Emma Sue Miller, died April 17, 2011 at her home. A funeral service was held April 24, 2011 at Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church with burial in the church cemetery.

    Surviving are sisters Delois Miller of Pageland, and Rita Nicholson of the home; brothers Gradlon H. Miller of Marshville, N.C., Jesse U. Miller, Freddie M. Miller and Christopher L. Miller, all of Pageland.

    Flemming Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

  • Obituary - James Sellers

    PAGELAND – Mr. James Grady Sellers, 75, died April 30, 2011 at Dundee Manor of Bennettsville. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, May 3  at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

     Visitation will immediately follow the service at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

    Surviving are sons James Mitch Sellers and Chad C. Sellers, both of Chatsworth, Ga.; daughter Sheri Laney of Pageland; five grandchildren and brother Charles Sellers of Ruby.

    CHESTERFIELD –  Mr. James Lavin Gainey, 79, died April 28, 2011 at his home. A funeral service was held  April 30, 2011 at Miller Rivers Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, followed in interment with full military honors in David’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Jefferson – Mrs. Bobbie Jean Mumford Hough died April 22, 2011 at her home. A funeral service was held April 24, 2011 at Mount Canaan Baptist Church with burial in the Hough Family Cemetery,

    RUBY – Mrs. Sarah  Jean Bittle, died April 15, 2011 at her home. A funeral service was held April 20, 2011 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Chesterfield, with burial in the Chestefield Community Cemetery.

    Surviving are a son, Randy Bittle, Ruby; daughters Nona B. Hubbard, Ruby,  Jacqueline B. Mungo, Mt. Croghan, and Lexie M. Riley, Washington, D.C.; a brother, Willie Bittle, Philadelphia, Penn.; sisters Lois B. Rivers and Shirley B. Chapman both of Chesterfield; nine grandchildren and  two great grandchildren.

  • Obituary - Dolly Webster

    Chesterfield - Mrs. Dolly May Webster, 82, died Sunday, April 24, 2011 after a short stay at Chesterfield General Hospital.

    A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Hopewell Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Dan Austin. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Charlotte.
