PAGELAND — Being thirsty does not entitle one to pocket a big can of beer and walk out of a store without paying.

Chesterfield County deputies made that clear when they cracked the case of the purloined brew on Dec. 12. Mike Wallace of Mike’s One-Stop on U.S. 601 in Pageland called deputies about the theft of a 24-ounce beer about 5 p.m. that evening. A video showed the shoplifter. Wallace told deputies Lee Lewis and David Oliver he knew the suspect and where he lived. The deputies drove to his house.
