  • Wayne wins school district spelling bee

    On Jan. 26, McBee Elementary student Catherine Wayne won the Chesterfield County School District Spelling Bee. 

    She will be competing in the Regional Spelling Bee Feb. 2 in Charlotte, N.C.

  • School district names McCoy as top staffer

    McBee Elementary School’s Melissa McCoy has been selected the Chesterfield County School District Support Staff Employee of the Month for December.

    McCoy was nominated by Principal David Nutt.

    McCoy is a student assistant.

    “She is excellent at balancing professionalism with love and compassion,” said Nutt.

    In addition to doing the duties of her job, McCoy also helps around the school in other ways as well.

  • New Heights PTO hosts second meeting

    New Heights Middle held its second PTO meeting Jan. 15 at the school

    A total of 300 parents and students attended the event.

    Parents and students attended three 18-minute sessions that included Teen Wellness presented by Walt Bray; Exploratory Classes: What Are They?/Intro to Career Clusters presented by Janet Mangum, Angie Bush and Karen Brock; and Single Gender Classes presented by Maria Schwallier.

    PTO members extends thanks to the entire NHMS staff for making the vent possible.


  • Central named Points of Light high school

    Central High has been recognized as a Points of Light Award recipient for 2008-09.

    Central High and two other winning schools were recognized in a ceremony and banquet in their honor in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 13.

    Winning schools were selected by Blue Ribbon Schools for Excellence Inc. based upon an assessment process designed by the group.

    Schools were assessed for their commitment to educational excellence in one or more of nine categories.

  • Deason graduates Greenville Tech

    Ashley Deason, daughter of Ronnie and Kathy Deason of Pageland, graduated from the physical therapist assistant program at Greenville Technical College Nov. 21, 2008.

    She received an associate of health science degree, and was also awarded the academic excellence award for the highest grade point average.

    She has accepted a job at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, N.C.   

  • McBee students win at Jr. Beta convention

    Rita Huggins and Vickie Lucas, sponsors of the McBee Elementary Junior Beta Club, and 16 of the 19 Jr. Beta members attended the S.C. Jr. Beta Convention Dec. 11-12 at Myrtle Beach.  

    After spending many months preparing for the state convention, the students were eager to compete in the many competitions over the two-day event. Catherine Wayne won the Division I Spelling Bee and the club’s tee shirt design placed second. Ryne Mangum, Chloe Tiller, Briana Gainey, Jeremy Johnson and Frankie Cuelar were on the tee shirt committee.
